Diplomacy in Gießen City Hall – Fourth Gießen Model United Nations
The fourth Gießen Model United Nations Conference took place from September 12th to 14th 2025 in the Gießen City Hall. The event was opened with speeches by the Mayor of Gießen, Frank-Tilo Becher, and the Chairwoman of Gießen Model United Nations (GiessenMUN) e.V., Lina Kost. Distinguished guests included Ms. Ingrid Kasper, Chief of the United Nations Television and Broadcast Facilities Unit and Mr. Uwe Johannsen, Representative of the United Nations Association of Germany (Hessen). All speeches emphasized the importance of young people’s commitment to democracy, human rights and peace, as well as their active engagement in shaping the future. They also underlined the special importance of respectful exchange and discussion. In addition, Ms. Ingrid Kasper engaged in an interactive Q&A session with the delegates, offering valuable insights into the work of the United Nations.

The GiessenMUN Association expressed its gratitude to everyone who made the conference possible and to all participants for their dedication and commitment. The dedicated organisation for the conference took more than half a year. The sessions were led by experienced chairpersons who themselves have participated in several Model United Nations conferences, including the National Model United Nations in New York City.

Around 50 participants from across Germany and other countries each represented a member state of the United Nations in this year’s simulation. They practiced diplomatic negotiations, delivered speeches, and worked on solutions to pressing global challenges. After an introductory workshop on the Rules of Procedure on Friday, the weekend included two intensive days of conferences. The General Assembly First Committee discussed the topics “Fostering Outer Space Security through Cooperation” and “Strengthening International Security through Climate Resilience Measures.” The delegates chose to focus on the latter topic. After two days of holding speeches and writing working papers, the delegates successfully passed two resolutions proposing solutions to the global challenges at hand.

We thank all delegates, chairs, guests, and supporters for making GiMUN 2025 a success and look forward to welcoming participants again next year!
